Yes, SCL will deliver building materials in about a 45 mile radius of Scott City. There is usually a fee for deliveries outside the Scott City limits. Deliveries requiring a forklift will only be made within the Scott City limits. Additional fees apply for shingle or drywall deliveries.

No, SCL does not provide any installation services, but we can put you in touch with local contractors that can do the work in a timely fashion. We do, however, sell the the materials that it takes to complete your project!

Yes, SCL will cut the lumber or plywood to the size you need. There is a cutting fee associated with this service, and minimum material costs do apply. (Example: We will cut a sheet of plywood to the size you need, but you will need to pay for the full sheet.)

Many small jobs do not require a building permit. If your project involves electrical or structural work then yes, you do need a permit. It's always best to check with the building inspector before starting a project to make sure you have all of the appropriate permits.

The finished dimension of two-by lumber does not match the name of the lumber (i.e. a 2x4 does not measure 2" by 4"). Actual dimensions are as follows:

2x4 = 1-1/2" x 3-1/2"
2x6 = 1-1/2" x 5-1/2"
2x8 = 1-1/2" x 7-1/4"
2x10 = 1-1/2" x 9-1/4"
2x12 = 1-1/2" x 11-1/4"

Plywood grades are determined by a veneer quality on the face and back of each panel. The first letter designates quality of face veneer (best side), while the second letter denotes the surface quality of the back of the panel.

"A": Highest grade quality available. Can be defect free or contain small knots, providing they are replaced with wooden plugs. Surface is always sanded smooth.
"B": Second highest quality veneer grade. Normally a by-product of downgraded "A" quality veneer. Solid surface, but may contain small diameter knots and narrow surface splits.
"C": Considered to be a lower end face quality, but a reasonable choice for general construction purposes.
"D": Considered to be the lowest quality veneer and often used for the back surface for construction grade panels.

Treated lumber has been presure treated to exend the life of the wood. This process increases the durability and resistance from being destroyed by insects or fungus. There are different types of treated lumber. Scott County Lumber now carries "Allweather Wood" treated lumber.

It is very important to use primer before painting. Priming assures a more uniform appearance of overall finish coat. In most cases, you need a primer if the surface has never been painted before. If you are repainting something, you will need a primer if the old paint is worn down and the surface is exposed.
